High School Sites

Presently, WESTconsin Credit Union has four fully operational high school offices that are located in Hudson, Menomonie, New Richmond and River Falls. A functioning credit union office within a school site not only provides easily accessible financial products and services to students and staff, but an interactive venue for students to discuss financial matters one-on-one with credit union personnel. It also allows students to experience the financial services work environment, which can be accomplished through the school’s cooperative education program. The credit union can assist many classes with promotions, seminars and other activities that seek to encourage saving, budgeting, planning for the future as well as other educational resources.

Hudson High School

WESTconsin's Hudson High School office officially opened its doors in May 2010. The office functions as a partnership between the District’s School to Career and Youth Apprenticeship program and WESTconsin Credit Union. The credit union is located in the foyer area near the high school cafeteria. Students of the Youth Apprenticeship program participate as tellers who work alongside WESTconsin staff in running the operations of the site. Together, they provide valuable access to financial resources, information and products to the school’s students and staff. Operational hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the lunch periods when school is in session.

In February 2010, WESTconsin was selected by the Hudson School District Board of Education to provide a fully-functioning financial office that will serve high school students and staff. According to district administration, the establishment of a WESTconsin high school office helps support their financial literacy goals as well as long range strategic planning efforts.

Menomonie High School

Since September 2008, students at Menomonie High School have had a credit union office within their school. WESTconsin Credit Union opened its office in the space that housed the DECA school store. Operational hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays during the lunch periods and when school is in session. The credit union is staffed with student tellers working through the Business Department’s Youth Apprenticeship program and a representative from one of WESTconsin’s Menomonie offices.

“Having this location at the high school will provide students easy access to financial tools that will help lead them down a path to financial success,” said Kelly Hoyland, Business Department instructor and Youth Apprenticeship advisor.

WESTconsin was chosen as the local financial institution to provide a fully-functioning financial office that will serve the students and staff of the Menomonie Area School District. Students are encouraged to come in and visit with credit union staff members for answers to questions on establishing credit, building a retirement plan or basic budgeting questions.

New Richmond High School

Opening September 2010, the WESTconsin Credit Union—New Richmond High School office is the newest among all of the high school sites. The office is located within the school’s main commons area and is open during all lunch periods on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, as school is in session. As with the other high school sites, the New Richmond credit union office is operating by student tellers who work under the supervision of a WESTconsin New Richmond office representative. The partnership is associated with the Business and Marketing Department’s Financial Services Cooperative program.

School Board representatives reviewed proposals from the local area and the decision was made to move forward with WESTconsin. According to district administrator, Morrie Veilleux, “WESTconsin is already in our schools helping with personal finance classes.” Services available to students and staff at the high school’s location include checking and savings products, certificates, direct deposit, and on-site financial assistance in the areas of budgeting, planning for the future, establishing good credit, and other industry-related topics.

River Falls High School

Students at River Falls High School have had their own credit union office since January 2009. The WESTconsin Credit Union—River Falls High School office resides in the space that also houses the school store. The credit union is staffed with student tellers working through the school’s Work Co-op program, and a representative from the River Falls WESTconsin Credit Union office. Operational hours are during the high school’s lunch periods on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays when school is in session.

WESTconsin was chosen as the local financial institution to provide a fully-functioning financial office that will serve the students and staff of the River Falls School District. “WESTconsin has been offering free financial education programs to local schools for more than 20 years,” said Bob Casey, Manager of the River Falls WESTconsin Credit Union Office. “We’re excited to be available for high school students on a one-on-one basis.” Students and staff are encouraged to come in and visit with WESTconsin representatives.
