  • How do I get a Reloadable Card?

  • What is the fee per card for purchasing a Reloadable Card?

The fee is based on your Membership Value Pricing status: $8.00 for Basic, $5.00 for Silver, and $3.00 for Gold.

  • How does a Reloadable Card work?

It's a prepaid Reloadable Visa debit card and can be used for purchases and ATM withdrawals at most places where Visa debit cards are accepted. The Reloadable Card is not affiliated with your checking or savings account. The Reloadable Card allows you to access only the amount funded on the Card. The purchase amount is automatically deducted from the Card.

  • How does the Secondary Card work?

Primary cardholders can purchase up to four Secondary Cards for family members or traveling companions. The Secondary Card is directly linked to the Primary Card, but will be embossed with the Secondary’s name and have a different Card number. All Cards share the available balance and transaction limits, however the Secondary Card will only be able to access their own transaction records and will not be able to load funds to the Card. The fee to purchase a Secondary Card is $3.00 per Card.

  • Are there any monthly fees?

Fees are waived the first twelve months. After twelve months, a $2.50 monthly maintenance fee will be assessed.

Yes, you can add value of $20.00 up to $2,500.00. The primary cardholder can reload the card using a WESTconsin Debit Card or WESTconsin Visa Credit Card. You may also call (800) 924-0022 or visit your local office to apply funds from your savings or checking account. The value will then be added to the Card balance. Funds may not be available for immediate use after you have initiated the load/reload.

  • Are there reload limits?

Yes, there are limits to the number of reloads. You can reload your Personalized Reloadable Card a maximum of 3 times every 7 days. The Non-Personalized Reloadable Card can be loaded a maximum of 4 times.

  • What do I do if I have a Non-Personalized Reloadable Card and I've reached the 4-load limit?

You can continue to make purchases using your old Card until the balance has been depleted. If you choose, a new Personalized Reloadable Card can be ordered.

  • What do I do if a merchant asks me "Debit" or "Credit"?

If you wish to process the transaction as a debit, choose ‘Debit’ and input your PIN number. (See question "How do I obtain my PIN?" for how to get your PIN number). To process the transaction as a credit, choose ‘Credit’ and sign the receipt.

  • What if the item I want to purchase costs more than the value on my Card?

To make a purchase greater than the balance on your Card, you will need to use another payment method - cash, check, credit card or debit card - to cover the difference. Tell the cashier the amount to deduct from your Card and how much you will pay with the other method. We do not guarantee the establishment will fulfill this request.

  • What happens if I need to return an item?

Each merchant location has its own return policies so you will need to check with the merchant.

  • What if the purchase is denied?

If a decline occurs, the Card's available balance may be less than the purchase amount. Some merchants preauthorize for an amount slightly higher than your actual transaction (usually 20%) to ensure sufficient funds for tips or incidental expenses. This amount is "held" until the transaction settles to your Reloadable Card. Only the amount you sign for will ultimately be deducted from your Card. Use of the Card at automated fuel dispensers requires a minimum available balance of $100 (may be higher) and may require the Card to be registered to be able to confirm the zip code of the Cardholder. When making a purchase by phone, mail or online, the account information you provide must be the same account information as when you registered your Card; a difference may lead to a declined authorization.

  • Can the Card ever have a negative balance?

Any authorization request that is greater than the Card's available balance will be declined. However, there can be times when a Visa merchant puts an item through without prior authorization. If this occurs, the cardholder will be required to reload funds onto the Card to cover the negative amount. If you do not initiate the reload, we reserve the right to apply funds in any of your accounts with us to your Card to cover the negative amount.

  • Who should I contact if my Reloadable Visa Card is lost or stolen?

Immediately report a lost or stolen card by calling (866) 760-3156. A replacement card can be issued and any available balance transferred to a new card, less applicable fees.

  • Can I put a stop payment on a purchase I made with the Card?

No, it is not possible to stop payment on a purchase after the Card has been presented for payment.

  • Who should I contact for a transaction error?

Click here to login to the Reloadable Card website and then download a dispute form and complete the transaction information or you can call Customer Service at (866) 760-3156.

  • How do I find an ATM when I travel - especially overseas?

Use the ATM locator found at for participating Visa ATMs both domestic and abroad.

  • What is the exchange rate when I get to another country?

Purchases and cash advances, including ATM withdrawals, made with your Card in foreign countries and foreign currencies will be charged to your account in U.S. dollars. The conversion to U.S. dollars will be made in accordance with Visa operating regulations. Visa charges WESTconsin Credit Union a 1% International Service Assessment fee for each foreign country transaction, which will be added onto the cost of the foreign transaction and charged to the balance on your Card.

  • Can I use my Reloadable Card in a foreign country?

Yes, the Reloadable Card can be used for purchases and ATM withdrawals at most places where Visa Debit is accepted. However, Reloadable cards do not have the EMV chip; some foreign merchants may not accept the Reloadable Card for point-of-sale purchases because they do not have the EMV Chip and may not accept a Non-Personalized Card as payment if they require a name to be on the Card. At times prepaid cards may be restricted from use in certain countries due to national security watch lists. Also, some locations may be unable to process debit card transactions and are only able to accept cash payments. A 1% currency conversion fee is assessed to all foreign transactions, whether at an ATM or merchant location, and is charged separately at the end of the processing day.
