Welcome & Our History
Welcome to WESTconsin!
Greetings and happy spring! The sunshine and fresh air sure do bring a feeling of excitement for the new season!
Speaking of new, the construction of our new Rice Lake office is progressing well, and we are on track to open the doors this summer! Located at 21 East Burton Street, the full-service office will allow members to visit for everyday transactions, as well as meet with dedicated Mortgage Loan Originators, Business Loan Officers, and advisors from our Investment team. We are thrilled to be a part of the growing Rice Lake community in just a couple of months!
Since the holidays, we have seen a steady uptick in fraud attempts our members are experiencing. When it comes to your personal information and finances, you can never be too safe. The best way to protect yourself is to stay vigilant and educated. We have resources available on our website on best practices when receiving suspicious messages, emails, or letters. If the communication claims to be from WESTconsin, contact us at (800) 924-0022 and never click any links. Reputable organizations, like your credit union, will never ask you for your personal or financial information by phone, text, or email.
WESTconsin Credit Union recently held its 84th Annual Membership Meeting on March 5, 2024. Prior to the meeting, members voted in the election of one Board of Director position after Mark Dahms announced his retirement from the Board. Jesse Singerhouse was elected for a three-year term. The Board now consists of Gerald Wolf as Chairperson, Karen Flug as Vice Chairperson, Colleen Mensing as Secretary, Todd Leipnitz as Treasure, and Dale Dahlke, Sarah Noreen, and Jesse Singerhouse as additional Board members.
Lastly, I am pleased to announce I am entering the next chapter of my life and plan to retire in September. Looking back, I never would have imagined graduating from college and finding a lifelong career with a company I hold dear to my heart. Being with WESTconsin for 40 years, I feel both excited and grateful to retire from such a wonderful organization that has done so much to help its members and communities. With that, current Chief Operations Officer Jim Wookey will take over as CEO, and I have great confidence in the bright future that’s ahead for the credit union under his leadership!
Thank you for your continued membership. Sending you warm wishes for a pleasant and sunny spring!
Lora J. Benrud
CEO, WESTconsin Credit Union
We exist to serve our members.
Founded in 1939, WESTconsin Credit Union is one of the region's strongest financial services provider. Our history takes us back to primarily serving the Menomonie area agricultural community, then operating as Menomonie Farmers Credit Union. We expanded in membership base over the next several years and merged with other small credit unions in the region. In the summer of 1990, we recognized this growth by changing our name to WESTconsin Credit Union.
WESTconsin Credit Union is celebrating 85 years in 2024. Today, our field of membership footprint includes 28 counties across west central Wisconsin and east central Minnesota with office locations in Altoona, Amery, Baldwin, Barron, Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire, Ellsworth, Hudson, Menomonie, New Richmond, Prescott, and River Falls, Wisconsin.
The spirit and philosophy of people helping people, guides WESTconsin leaders and encourages our employees to get involved in community and charitable activities and worthwhile causes, including sponsorships, donations, and volunteerism. In 2023, WESTconsin was very proud to support many local initiatives, including a $10,000 donation to Children Miracle Network Hospitals to benefit young patients, $25,000 to help fund Northwood Technical College’s new Medical Laboratory Technician program, and over $11,000 to a variety of community partners through fundraising campaigns throughout the year.
WESTconsin is based in your community, owned by people like you. We seek to enrich members, communities, and employees with the resources and support to achieve financial wellness. While supporting one another, we’re Inspiring Better.
