What is Election by Acclamation?
Election by acclamation occurs when a candidate or set of candidates is declared the winner without a formal vote because they are unopposed, meaning there is no other candidate or option to vote for. It typically happens when the number of candidates equals the number of positions available, or when no opposition is presented before the election deadline.
In this process, since there's no competition, no voting takes place, and the candidates are simply "acclaimed" or automatically chosen for the position.
It is important to note that Election by Acclamation requires the Board’s approval. This ensures that the Board still plays an active role in assessing the suitability of candidates for another term. Should there be concerns about an incumbent’s conduct or performance, the Board has the authority to address these before approving their reelection.
