Welcome & Our History
Welcome to WESTconsin!
What a beautiful summer we are having! I hope you have been able to enjoy this season as we begin to feel more “normal” after such an unusual year. I have certainly enjoyed seeing smiling faces again, gathering with family and friends, and the return of community events like fairs and festivals this summer. While it seems we’ve turned a corner and can start feeling more comfortable with COVID-19 numbers in our area, please know our leadership team continues to monitor numbers in the communities we serve to ensure our employees and members are in the safest situation possible when visiting any WESTconsin office.
One thing I’m looking forward to most that is taking place later this summer is our technology upgrade! I am so proud of all the WESTconsin employees who have been working tirelessly to prepare for this enhancement. We are excited for our new system, which will enable us to provide better personalized service and give us the ability to evolve with our membership’s changing needs. We invite you to visit our technology upgrade webpage, where many questions you might have about the technology upgrade and subsequent closure are covered in the Frequently Asked Questions section.
Recently, WESTconsin has received reports of members falling victim to a variety of fraud schemes. Often, they begin with a member receiving either a text message or email that ask the member to respond about a questionable financial transaction and leads to the member giving out personal information to the fraudster. Please be extremely careful about providing any information to a caller, especially if you have not recently initiated contact with WESTconsin Credit Union. If you are ever questioning the legitimacy of a phone call from or with WESTconsin, please hang up and call our Service Center directly. Yes, really! Hang up! We won’t mind! We would be happy to see that you are protecting your accounts.
While we are looking forward to all of the exciting things headed our way, we are aware that circumstances can change in a hurry. At WESTconsin, we will always put what is best for our members and employees first, and with much consideration will make the moves necessary to make that happen.
Sending my best wishes for a happy summer!
Lora J. Benrud
CEO, WESTconsin Credit Union
We exist to serve our members.
Founded in 1939, WESTconsin Credit Union is one of the region's strongest financial services provider. Our history takes us back to primarily serving the Menomonie area agricultural community, then operating as Menomonie Farmers Credit Union. We expanded in membership base over the next several years and merged with other small credit unions in the region.
In the summer of 1990, we recognized this growth by changing our name to WESTconsin Credit Union. Today, our field of membership footprint includes twenty-six counties across west central Wisconsin and east central Minnesota with offices in Altoona, Amery, Baldwin, Barron, Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire, Ellsworth, Hudson, Menomonie, New Richmond, Prescott, River Falls and Spring Valley, Wisconsin.
We exist to serve the financial needs of our member-owners (account holders) and our communities. As a not-for-profit financial services organization, we are owned and operated by and for our members. Our members receive dividends back on a daily basis in the form of low-fee products and services. In addition, our not-for-profit status enables us to operate at a lower cost than many for-profit institutions, and helps WESTconsin offer competitive loan and savings rates to our members. We're based right here in your community, owned by community members like you. You get a higher level of personal service, and can build a long-lasting relationship with people who can help you find the best financial solutions to your unique needs.
